Visit Buffalo Debuts Regional Mural Initiative in Williamsville
Visit Buffalo debuted a mural in the heart of Williamsville today, celebrating the village’s history, architecture and community spirit.
Created by local artist James “Yames” Moffitt, the mural features nearly a dozen references to beloved parts of Williamsville’s identity – from St. Peter and Paul’s Church to Old Home Days, the Williamsville Water Mill and Glen Falls.
The project was developed in collaboration with Visit Buffalo, the Williamsville Business Association, the Village of Williamsville, Erie County Legislator Jeanne Vinal and local residents, who contributed ideas and inspiration. The final design incorporates architectural, historical and cultural symbols that reflect the village’s unique identity and pride.
“This mural not only enhances the visual landscape of Williamsville, but also invites residents and visitors to stop, explore and connect with the village’s rich sense of place,” said Patrick Kaler, president and CEO of Visit Buffalo.
The mural is the first in a new countywide initiative led by Visit Buffalo to celebrate the diverse identities of towns, villages and neighborhoods. In the coming years, similar murals will be painted in Erie County, each rooted in local iconography and created in partnership with residents, artists and civic organizations.
The new series of murals will be visually connected to one another, offering Instagram-worthy moments and encouraging people to explore communities and neighborhoods.
People are encouraged to reach out if they know of a place that should be considered for a future mural. Priority will be given to walkable districts where visitors can stop and explore. Ideas and locations can be shared via email at [email protected].
The project is part of Visit Buffalo’s ongoing commitment to celebrating local culture and fostering civic pride through placemaking, storytelling and public art.
