More than 270 races featuring skaters from 35 U.S. and Canadian clubs; admission is free.

BUFFALO, NY — October 14, 2026 — The Buffalo Speedskating Club will host the 12th Annual International Buffalo Short Track Speedskating Championships on October 24–25 at the Northtown Center at Amherst, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, NY.

Expected to be the largest regional speedskating competition in the United States, the two-day event will feature more than 200 athletes from 35 clubs across the United States and Canada competing in over 270 races. Competitors will range from novice skaters to nationally ranked athletes, including current national champions and potential future Olympic and World Cup competitors. The event is expected to bring about $215,000 in economic impact to the Buffalo area.

Short track speedskating is the fastest Olympic sport on ice, with athletes racing at high speeds around a tight oval track. Close racing, strategic passing, and finishes often decided by fractions of a second make it an exciting spectator sport.

Presented in collaboration with the Buffalo Sports Commission, the championships are sanctioned by US Speedskating and attract athletes, coaches, and families from throughout North America.

The Buffalo Speedskating Club invites the public to experience the competition firsthand. Club representatives will be available throughout the weekend to provide information about opportunities to learn and participate in speedskating in Western New York.

Spectator admission is free and open to the public.
