The Torah in the Tarot Exhibition Reception

June 20, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Have you ever looked at a tarot card and seen a piece of Jewish history?
Inspired by the groundbreaking research of Stav Appel, The Torah in the Tarot explores hidden Judaic symbolism embedded within one of the world’s oldest tarot decks: the 17th-century Jean Noblet Tarot de Marseille.
Through Hebrew letters, Torah narratives, ritual imagery, and symbolic interpretation, this exhibition reconsiders tarot as a visual language shaped by storytelling, spirituality, survival, and cultural continuity. Appel’s research suggests these cards may have even functioned as a discreet educational tool during periods of religious persecution and the Inquisition.
Visitors will explore the 22 Major Arcana cards alongside guided interpretations of embedded Jewish references, hidden meanings, and historical context.
