Explore the quiet magic of Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese art of paper marbling. Transform flowing ink into striking tree-ring inspired designs. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to float ink on water, gently guide its movement, and layer circular patterns that echo the natural growth rings found in trees, to create completely unique prints.

Meet your instructor, Liz!

Liz Gatto is a new face at the Botanical Gardens, joining our team in April of 2023 as our Educator and Program Coordinator. Liz graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History with Museum Studies from Niagara University. She is passionate about museum education and is excited to bring her creativity to the Botanical Gardens. Prior to joining the team, Liz worked in the department of Art and Family Programs for several years at Artpark in Lewiston, NY and has interned with multiple galleries including the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Liz is also an artist herself, her love for botany and nature shines through her personal artwork. She is very much looking forward to getting the public inspired by the gardens and offering creative workshops. In her spare time Liz enjoys drawing, painting, traveling, drinking coffee, visiting museums, and taking care of her many houseplants!
