The North Park Theatre is no stranger to unique movie screenings. There’s one coming up that Buffalonians should be particularly excited for.

One of the Good Ones is a legal drama that was filmed right here in Western New York in 2025. The filming took place in a wide variety of locations throughout Erie and Niagara County. It also utilized more than 80 WNY locals for its cast and crew, making it a truly local project.

The film is based on the first book of the four-part Lawyers Gone Bad series, which is available on Amazon. These novels were written by local author Vincent L. Scarsella, who previously spent eighteen years in the Attorney Grievance division, dealing with public complaints of lawyers who lied, stole, conned, and did not perform the duties they swore to uphold. It goes without saying he likely had a ton of real-life experience to pull from for inspiration.

The film was written by Scarsella, along with Julie O’Hora who directed the project. WNY local Bill Murray III produced the film through his production company, B3 Productions.

One of the Good Ones stars Tom Paolino who portrays Dean Alessi, an attorney in the Attorney Grievance division who believes the recent death of a coworker’s husband might have actually been a murder. During his investigation, he gradually discovers the coverup might be a part of something much larger that puts his career and his life in danger.

In a world in which AI is corrupting the world of art and media more and more, it’s vital that we do what we can to support real art, especially on the independent level. Attending the premiere of this locally-made film is a great way to show support for real artists that are engaging riveting moviegoing experiences.
