Leather Stitching Workshop & Scissor Case at Genesee Country Village & Museum introduces participants to traditional leatherworking techniques used in the 19th century.
Leather and hides were commonly used materials for tools, clothing, and everyday repairs before the widespread use of plastics. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn basic leather stitching techniques while creating a small leather snip case. Along the way, Museum educators will share insight into how leatherworking skills were used in daily life during the 1800s.
At the end of the workshop, participants will take home their completed scissor case along with a 4-inch hand-forged snip.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required. The workshop will take place at the Thomson Barn Activity Center.
