The 55th Annual Grease Pole Festival (El Palo Encebao)! This three-day event is Buffalo’s oldest ethnic cultural festival, celebrating the rich heritage and traditions of the local Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities.

The Main Event: Teams of participants cooperate to scale a 35-foot utility pole completely smothered in thick car grease. The ultimate goal is for a climber to reach the top and grab the prize item (traditionally a sausage or flag) to win a cash prize of $1,000 to $2,000 and neighborhood bragging rights.

Cultural Celebration: Beyond the competition, the festival features authentic Puerto Rican food vendors, live Latin music, traditional dance, and family entertainment.

Community Support: The festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Pucho Olivencia Community Center, directly funding local year-round youth programming and college scholarship awards.
