Please join us as our Design Aloud Series continues with a talk with Tamara Lanier. Lanier is a tireless champion for truth and justice and the author of the 2025 memoir, From These Roots: My Fight with Harvard to Reclaim My Legacy. The book chronicles her 15-year legal battle against Harvard University to reclaim 19th-century daguerreotypes of her enslaved ancestors, Renty Taylor and his daughter Delia. Her journey reached a historic conclusion in March 2026, with the official transfer of the images to the International African American Museum.

Join us in hearing Tamara speak on important questions regarding museum collections, ownership rights, and the role of oral histories. You are welcome to bring a copy of her book, which are also available for purchase in our museum store, to get signed by Tamara after her talk!

DESIGN ALOUD is a series of conversations, screenings, and performances exploring the power of contemporary design in harmony with nature. The series is presented by M&T Bank.
