Antônio Carlos Jobim, a dynamic force behind the creation of the bossa nova style, was a Brazilian composer who is often called the “Father of Bossa Nova.” In the 1960’s, with the help of important American artists, he merged bossa nova
with jazz to create an innovative and highly popular sound. Jobim’s compositions have since been recorded and performed internationally by hundreds of singers and instrumentalists.
Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema) has become one of the most recorded songs of all time. Many of Jobim’s works, including Desafinado, Meditation, Corcovado, Wave, and Waters of March have become jazz and pop standards. Still, there are some captivating lesser-known compositions that deserve to be heard. Vocalist Cheryl Ferris has assembled a combo of western New York’s finest musicians for this special evening. They are excited to showcase the brilliance and beauty of Jobim’s work in the intimate setting of the Pausa Art House.
