Canela is, if we had to label it, a string quartet. The group started with a vision to get together female artists and to explore the varying cultural and musical influences that have come to intersect in us while also honoring the energy of shared sisterhood and support. Our sound is composed of (contemporary) classical, latin/Venezuelan/tango, French, folk, blues and pop. We play works written for quartet (Jesse Montgomery), as well as arrangements (often done by me) and covers. Perhaps most importantly, they play original compositions Vanessa Snowden, and cellist, Sam Godus.
The ensemble consists of Vanessa Snowden playing the violin, cuatro (a Venezuelan folk guitar), and providing lead vocals; Jenna Noreck on violin and backup vocals; Sam Godus on cello, guitar, and lead vocals; and Amy Kelly on viola and backup vocals.
Guest Musicians : Nelson Rivera on percussion, James Bender on bass
