Skulls devils monsters graveyards: Just symbols we associate with Halloween?
You’ll find them all in the medieval iconography displayed on the facade of Blessed Trinity Church when you take the October 31 tour of this Buffalo Landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Step inside and follow an All-Saints Day procession of more than 100 angels and saints from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament making their way to heaven in the church’s great dome. Docents will highlight the spectacular interior details of the church and its extensive display of Christian symbolism, and visitors will be treated to All-Hallows’ Eve selections on the church’s 1927 Tellers-Kent pipe organ and a vocal finale by the Angel of Music.
Completed in 1928 at a cost of over a half million dollars, the church is considered one of the purest examples of 12th Century Lombard-Romanesque architecture in the United States. The exceptional level of artisanship involved in its creation marks Blessed Trinity as a work of art that can never be replicated.
This tour meets at Blessed Trinity Church, 317 Leroy Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14214. Ample parking is available behind the church and adjacent to the wheelchair ramp on its east side. This tour is 90 minutes in length.
