Agents of Change: Immigration

Stories of Resettlement, Resilience, and Community in Buffalo.

Join us for an afternoon of storytelling, learning, and connection.

This project celebrates the vital work of the five major resettlement organizations in the City of Buffalo the groups supporting individuals and families as they rebuild their lives in a new home.

Learn more about what these organizations do, how they support newly arrived communities, and how you can become part of that work.

Hear Real Stories

Listen to the voices of recently arrived youth on the verge of graduation as they share:

–   Where they are from

–   Why they had to leave

–   Why they came to Buffalo

–   The challenges they’ve faced

–   The dreams and goals they carry forward

These firsthand stories offer a powerful look at the realities of displacement and the strength it takes to begin again.

Be Part of the Conversation

This event invites you to:

– Deepen your understanding of immigration and resettlement

– Engage in meaningful, two’way dialogue

– Discover ways to support and advocate for newcomers in our community

Why Attend?

Because behind every statistic is a person and every story deserves to be heard.

Thank you!

Agents of Change is a community-based research project that honors individuals helping to make Buffalo a better place especially through their support of newly resettled families. This is the 6th annual Agents of Change project. The project always culminates with a public presentation or performance; the event is always free and open to the public. This year the students are continuing with last year’s exploration of the five key resettlement agencies in the city of Buffalo.

This project is the capstone experience for the graduating class of Lafayette International High School. As part of this work, students will interview individuals from Buffalo’s five key resettlement organizations.  The students then honor community members during this culminating public event at Duende/Silo City. The students will also share their own resettlement journey stories educating the community about leaving one’s country to start a new life elsewhere.

They are exploring the essential question:

“What do immigrants bring to the community of Buffalo, and why is pluralism vital to our democracy?”

By learning about this work, students gain both inspiration and a deeper understanding of their own power to create positive change.
