250 Years of Jewish Life in America

The Jewish Museum of Buffalo invites Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors, families, students, educators, and visitors of every background to the opening of America 250: The Jewish American Story on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 805 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.

The special evening marks America’s 250th anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate, reflect, learn, and consider the many communities that have shaped the nation. Through history, art, music, poetry, and community participation, the program explores how Jewish Americans have shaped and been shaped by the country’s evolving history, ideals, cultures, and communities.

The evening opens two exhibitions: America 250: The Jewish American Story and a companion presentation of work by Buffalo artist Noah Breuer titled Patrimony. Drawing on generations of family textile traditions, Breuer’s contemporary art explores American identity, heritage, memory, and belonging.

The program will include guided exhibition tours, family-friendly art activities, poetry, and an original musical presentation tracing American history from the Revolutionary era to the present. Moderated by veteran journalist Rich Newberg, the performance brings together classical, folk, klezmer, jazz, Broadway, and contemporary music with historical readings and poetry. Together, these elements recognize the varied ways Jewish Americans have participated in the nation’s cultural and civic life.
