Paul Lubienecki, Ph.D., “Guided by the Inner Light.  The Society of Friends in Western New York.”

The religious history of the United States is one of persecution and yet tolerance. Differences in theological perspectives, politics and loyalties existed among all denominations and religious communities.  This aspect of life was also prevalent among the Society of Friends. Their spiritual life and journey to western New York reflected their civil and religious values in establishing themselves in local society. Exploring the work and lives of these Quaker communities we can better appreciate their contribution to society through the establishment of towns, in commerce and social awareness. pre
