Gallery Josephine is pleased to present Carried Forward: Art, Memory, and Stewardship from Three Artist Estates, an exhibition featuring works by Duayne Hatchett, Wilhelmina Godfrey, and Jackie Felix, three remarkable artists whose lives and practices helped shape the cultural fabric of Western New York. Together, these artists represent a powerful cross-section of Buffalo’s creative history. Hatchett’s bold explorations of form, color, and structure, Godfrey’s deeply expressive work across painting, printmaking, and textiles, and Felix’s fearless, psychologically charged visual language each speak to the importance of artistic persistence, experimentation, and personal vision. While their practices were distinct, each artist created work that remains urgent, alive, and deserving of continued attention. At Art Resource, we believe an artist’s impact should not end when their career does. Through our work with artist estates, we seek to preserve, present, and reintroduce important bodies of work so that artists remain visible, accessible, and relevant for future generations. This exhibition is both a celebration and an act of stewardship, honoring the responsibility we share in carrying creative legacies forward. Carried Forward invites viewers to encounter these artists not as figures of the past, but as active voices within the present. Their work continues to ask questions, spark conversation, and remind us that legacy is not static. It is something we care for, return to, and bring with us into the future.
