Built in 1827 by Oziel Smith, Eagle House served as a stagecoach stop between Buffalo and Batavia. The tavern boasts one of New York State’s longest continuously held liquor licenses, and some believe it may have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. Now operated by the fifth-generation Hanny family—restaurateurs since the 1880s—Eagle House remains a Williamsville landmark known for its French onion soup, Welsh rarebit, Beef Wellington, classic beef on ‘weck and fish fry.
