Cole’s opened on Elmwood Avenue in 1934. The pub features a cozy hometown vibe, with clippings and plaques adorning the walls and old-school felt pennants and championship flags festooning the rafters above the central barroom. Craft beer trailblazer Mike Shatzel, third generation in his family’s restaurant business, took over when his father and uncle retired. Cole’s serves Buffalo staples like wings and beef on ‘weck, along with classic American pub fare. In addition to drawing fresh-faced college students and longtime residents alike, as one of Buffalo’s pioneering destinations for imported and craft beer, Cole’s attracts beer fans from far and wide.
