Carry My Own Suitcase tells a story about a family living in the kaleidoscope that is Autism. At the center of the story of this super theatrical show is Roger, a 25 year old boy with full-on autism who yearns to be independent like his big brother. Roger alone, in the opera, does not sing: a dancer and an actor simultaneously portray Roger in all his exorbitance, charm, and impulsiveness. The story zigzags through time, space and memory after Roger and his family reach a crisis point one evening at home in a rollercoaster of comedy, chaos, pain, passion, and most of all love.
